Royal Enfield Scram 440 engine problem details
As per an online report, the Chennai-based cult motorcycle manufacturer has acknowledged the Scram 440 engine-related problem, and it has actively stopped the sales and bookings for the model nationwide.
The sales and booking halt was carried out in April, after multiple owners reported the bike not being able to start after riding for some time. In fact, a few owners also reported the engine oil leaks from the casing.
After an internal investigation of the affected bikes, the company seems to have detected the ‘Woodruff key’ as faulty. This critical engine component is associated with the magneto inside the engine.
Moreover, it is also reported that the manufacturer has already started rectifying the affected bikes and is carrying the checkups for the sold motorcycles.
Mind you, the Scram 440 is an updated version of the previous-gen Scram 400, as it uses a bigger engine, a new 6-speed gearbox, and bigger brakes. It was launched in November 2024, while the deliveries started from January 2025.
The Scram 440 has the potential to become a sturdy workhorse for adventure seekers, but the engine-related troubles have kept many potential buyers away.
The rectification of the affected bikes and updated parts on the upcoming deliveries will ensure a trouble-free ownership for the owners.

Our verdict
Mechanical part failure and faulty parts are a common problem faced by every manufacturer once in a while. However, it is necessary that the brand should take a quick step to acknowledge and rectify the issue for the owners, which Royal Enfield is doing correctly as of now.
