Royal Enfield Scram 440

The Scram 440 was an interesting launch, as it is based on the outgoing Scram with a bigger engine and refined performance. However, the first lot of customers faced technical issues related to the engine not starting after being used for a long time.

The company had addressed this issue in early May, and it had stopped the sales and bookings of the Scram 440 nationwide as a precautionary measure. Additionally, only 2% sold motorcycles were recalled for the fix, while the issue detected was a solenoid-related part that failed to restart once heated up.

Interestingly, this issue was not a safety-related issue, as there were no reports regarding the stalling of the motorcycle. However, it caused inconvenience to the users, especially during a long ride.

After nearly two months of production and sales hold, the company has commenced the bookings and sales of the Scram 440. The pricing of the motorcycle is unchanged, while the waiting period ranges between 10 days to 1 month.

Mind you, the Scram 440 is based on a new 443cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine, which produces 25.4 bhp of peak power and 34 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a slick 6-speed transmission, which eliminated the short gearing issue of the outgoing model.

Our verdict

The Scram 440 is a perfect motorcycle for the old Himalayan 411 lovers, as it features the same air/oil-cooled engine block with more power and a sixth gear for easy highway cruising. Moreover, at Rs 2.08 lakh starting price, the Scram 440 is considerably cheaper than the new Himalayan.
