While the Super Meteor 650 has been the talk of the town, Royal Enfield also showcased a custom scrambler at the ongoing 2022 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan. This 650cc Scrambler is based on the Interceptor 650 and has quite a few noteworthy changes. Point to note, a few test bikes of such a scrambler-styled Interceptor 650 have been spotted out on the Indian streets, and possible, such a product could debut by mid-2023 here in the Indian market. When launched, will this be called the Royal Enfield Scram 650? Time will tell…
Who Built This Motorcycle?
Now this bike is a custom build and not an official product being prepared for market debut by Royal Enfield completely. However, the test bikes we have seen have quite a few similarities. Jointly developed with Bikerbnb, this Scrambler 650 looks purpose built to tackle the trails, and offer some extra off-road-worthiness to riders who want it in the Interceptor 650 format. When launched in India, we might see many more changes compared to this custom build, and safe to say, this bike will be more expensive than the Interceptor 650.
Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 – What’s New?
Harris Performance has played a key role in the development of this custom build as well. The chassis has been tweaked and tuned to suit the scrambler format. Changes include an offset headstock bearing cup, custom built front spindle bush, Ohlins USD front fork, Ohlins rear twin shock absorbers, 19″ spoked front wheel, 17″ spoked rear wheel, Pirelli Rally STR tyres, Brembo brakes, repositioned fuel tank, higher handlebar and a new 2×1 low slung exhaust by S&S.
Other features include purpose build knuckle guards, touring mirrors, new seat, high mounted off-road friendly front beak / fender, headlamp fairing with a metal grille, clear front windscreen, pannier mounts, full LED lighting setup, instrument cluster from Motogadget, keyless system and a custom paint job. What we wish is for a tubeless spoked wheel setup, for peace of mind.
Heart of the Scrambler 650
Powering this Scrambler 650 / Scram 650 would be the same motor which we see on the Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650 & the recently revealed Super Meteor 650. This 648cc, air-oil-cooled, twin-cylinder, SOHC, 4-stroke motor will produce 47 PS of power and 52.3 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. There is a possibility that the throttle map and gearing could be tweaked for this scrambler format. For added versatility, the bike could get switchable ABS for the rear wheel, better ground clearance and long travel suspension.
