Royal Enfield Classic 650 – What to expect?

The classic cult bike maker, Royal Enfield, introduced its new 650cc retro bike, the Classic 650, at the EICMA 2024. Ever since its world debut, it has been a topic of discussion among motorcycling enthusiasts globally.

While the company has been offering the new retro bike for test rides in select European cities, it has not been introduced in India yet. However, the launch date for the Indian market has been now confirmed as March 27.

Speaking of the Classic 650, it will be a lookalike of the smaller Classic 650 with plenty of chrome and retro design elements like the round headlamp, single-seat, teardrop fuel tank, and a low seating position.

Powering it will be the tried and tested 648cc, parallel-twin, air/oil-cooled engine that generates 46.4bhp and 52.3Nm of peak power and torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch for a smooth riding experience.

To keep its retro feel intact, the features list is not going to be very intriguing. It will feature a semi-digital console with an analogue dial and a small tripper navigation for turn-by-turn assistance.

Moreover, to give it a modern flair of design, it will feature an LED headlight and an LED taillight.

In terms of market positioning, the Classic 650 will be placed below the Super Meteor 650 and its expected price tag will hover around Rs 3.5 lakh.

Our verdict

The Classic 650 will be a transforming product for the brand in the middle-weight bike category worldwide. However, its Indian relevancy is still unclear as it will be a niche product that is also going to miss essential features like the tubeless wheels.
