Renault will not launch 2nd generation Duster in India

Written by Nizam Shaikh

French car manufacturer Renault may decide not to bring the second-generation of the Renault Duster to the Indian market, but instead, we may see another facelift of the first generation model for the time being. The second generation model is an updated version of the B0 platform that arrived in August 2017 with Dacia badging and the Renault version in November 2017. And now we think the second generation will be skipped for the Indian market and directly the third generation model will be launched here in India.

The Renault Duster is powered by a petrol and diesel variant. The petrol is a 1498cc, 4-cylinder motor that makes 106 PS of power @ 5600 RPM coupled to a manual transmission or an X-Tronic CVT automatic. The diesel variant has a 1461cc engine with 85 PS of power @ 3750 RPM and the same 1461cc block also producing 110 PS of power @ 4000 RPM.

On the exterior the Renault Duster has a Hawkeye clustered headlamp, a dual winged front grille, 2 tone body coloured bumper, waterfall LED taillights and turn indicators on the ORVMs. The interior of the Duster gets a soft-touch dashboard and door trim, premium seat fabric, automatic climate control air-conditioning with heater, tilt adjustable power steering, height adjustable driver seat with lumbar support.

For safety and security the Renault Duster offers dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution with brake assist, driver seatbelt reminder etc. and some security features such as speed sensitive door lock, impact sensitive door unlock, and reverse parking camera with guidelines.

The development of the third generation model will start in 2020 and the production version will be out by around 2023. A BSVI compliant engine may be in development and will be launched by the end of the year or early next year. Meanwhile, the facelift model will get all the AIS 145 compliant safety equipment.

The new facelift Duster is being road tested currently and will be arriving soon.

Renault is also gearing up to launch its new MPV, the Triber, and it will be arriving in the month of July 2019.
