Renault Twingo-based Nissan EV – What do we know?

In the latest advancement, the Renault-Nissan partnership has taken an operational deviation in India. Renault has acquired the 51 per cent remaining stakes in the Renault-Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd.

Additionally, the brand has stated that it will launch a new city electric car that will be based on the Renault Twingo. This EV will be designed by Nissan and it is scheduled to launch in 2026 in the UK.

As far as the positioning is considered, this new EV will be placed between the Micra and Leaf models in the global market. Moreover, it will initially debut with the RHD configuration, thus hinting at an Indian debut later.

Speaking of the Twingo, it is based on the Ampr Small EV platform which is also used by the Renault 5. Moreover, the Renault-Mitsubishi-Nissan alliance has already set Renault to make the new Micra EV.

Nissan has restructured its revival plan for the global market, where it has decided to launch new products frequently.

For the Indian market, Nissan has scheduled to debut the Renault Triber-based three-row MPV and a new Magnite facelift model. Additionally, the export models and the domestic production of Nissan will now be handled by Renault.

The failure of Nissan-Honda merger has led to a financial restructuring inside Nissan. However, Renault has proven to be a good help in the cruch time as the French carmaker is ready to handle the operational restructuring in India, as well as globally.
