Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Nissan India achieves yet another landmark, the carmaker has now produced 3.5 million power units. The Japanese carmaker’s first engine was made way back in 2010. And now, 22 years hence, Nissan has manufactured a total of 2.3 million engines and 1.2 million gearboxes. The 3.5 millionth power unit was an HRA0 TURBO engine that powers the Nissan Magnite. The carmaker’s manufacturing facility located in Chennai takes up full responsibility for the manufacturing of these powertrains. This achievement speaks volumes of Nissan’s technical prowess.

Nissan India’s Chennai Manufacturing Facility

3.5 million units is a huge number, that too for a brand like Nissan, that was not having a good time in India a few years back. This manufacturing facility in Chennai created history within the Indian automotive sector when the Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited (RNAIPL) team rolled out 1 lakh engines in just 14 months. Then for the next 6 years, the plant went to produce over 1 million engines.

As of today, RNAIPL produces six engine variants as well as four gearbox types from its powertrain facility. Multiple powertrain options are one of the main reasons Nissan is able to cater to a host of international market demands. Currently, Nissan Magnite is exported to 15 countries. This includes South Africa, Indonesia, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Uganda, Kenya, Seychelles, Mozambique, Zambia, Mauritius, Tanzania and Malawi.

Magnite – The Game Changer For Nissan India

The introduction of Magnite has completely changed the fortune of Nissan India’s story. The carmaker was on the verge of exiting the country, with abysmal sales figures. But now, with Magnite, Nissan India is back with a bang. The SUV-looking Magnite has all the characteristics that attract a typical Indian buyer. Good looks, loaded with features and most importantly, light on the wallet. It seems Nissan has cracked the formula to succeed in the much competitive price-sensitive Indian market. Nissan will aim to carry this momentum forward with more innovation and launches for the future.
