Renault Nissan announce 6 new products for India, 4 SUVs & 2 EVs

Renault and Nissan have revealed their plans for the Indian market. According to the French-Japanese joint-venture, a new long-term strategy for the local market has been announced. Further, both the carmakers will be investing in the production, Research & Development and towards electric vehicles.

6 New products for the Indian market by Renault Nissan

The main news from both the companies is the announcement of 6 new models. These will be both for the Indian domestic market as well as international markets. Amongst the six new cars, there will be four C-segment SUVs and two A-segment electric vehicles. All these new products will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan’s Chennai plant. These new cars will help push the utilisation of the plant towards 80 percent. 

Renault Nissan’s investment 

Both companies announced an investment of INR 5,300 crore toward future projects. These are likely to further create an additional 2,000 jobs at the Renault Nissan Technology and Business Centre at Chennai. 

Renault Nissan’s Green Initiatives

Apart from the new investment and six new models, the carmakers announced a green plan. By 2045, the brands are expecting to move towards 100 percent renewable energy sources. At the same time, they will reduce the energy consumption by 50 percent. 

At present, the Chennai factory is able to source half of its electricity needs from renewable sources which include the likes of solar, biomass and wind energy. The solar plant at the factory has an installed capacity of 2.2 MW as on date. Renault Nissan plans to increase it by over six times to 14 MW. This should take care of the bulk of its electricity needs. 

In other news, Renault recently launched the 2023 versions of the Kwid, Triber and Kiger in India. New for this MY23 models include BS6 Stage 2 emission norm compliance. This includes a new self-diagnostic device, which continuously monitors the emission norms of the car while in motion. The cars also get catalytic converters and oxygen sensors.
