20 years of legacy in the world of Formula 1, has spawned a new hypercar from the performance-centered brand – Red Bull. Yes, after many years of tease and denial, the brand has finally unveiled the RB17 hypercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The brand reveals that the Red Bull RB17 has been designed by Adrian Newey and Red Bull Advanced Technologies and is as close as you can get to driving a Formula 1 car.
Performance
Powering the Red Bull RB17 hypercar is a 4.5-litre semi-stressed mid mounted naturally aspirated V10 engine that is red lined at 15,000 rpm. The motor also gets electric assist which results in a power output of 1,200 Hp. The power is transferred to the rear wheels using a carbon fibre 6-speed sequential gearbox and along with the carbon fibre monocoque chassis, the RB17 weighs under 900 kgs.
Red Bull claims that the RB17 can achieve lap times equivalent to a Formula 1 car and also reach speeds in excess of 350 kmph. The RB17 also comes with hydraulically locking active limited-slip differential and the car misses out on a reverse gear. Instead, the RB17 features an electric motor mounted on the drivetrain to handle backing up duties.
Aerodynamics & Downforce
The two-Seater hypercar also features aerodynamic surfaces that can produce 3,747 pounds of downforce which is nearly twice as much as the car weighs. The car also features a wheel wake management system which helps the air around the wheel flow smoothly. In addition to this, the RB17 also gets active aero elements that adjust the aero surfaces to optimise the downforce according to the scenario.
Suspension, Wheels & Brakes
The hypercar also gets an adjustable pushrod suspension system with active height and roll control and has a lift mode to clear speed breakers. The Redbull RB17 also gets carbon brakes with brake-by-wire system on the rear brakes and a hydraulic power steering. The RB17 gets 18-inch carbon fibre wheels with the option of upgrading it to 20-inches and Michelin tyres specifically developed for the car.
Easy to Own and Operate?
Interestingly, Red Bull claims that the RB17 will be easy to own and operate and to back up its claims, the brand offers a 2-year/4,000-kilometer warranty and the engine is capable of running on regular fuel. The brand claims that the RB17 is durable for a 24-hour race without service and major service intervals are set at 8,000 km.
Red Bull will only produce 50 examples of the RB17 which will be sold at a hefty price tag which has not been revealed yet.
