Recall Alert! Lamborghini Huracan door to be fixed

Written by Rohit Tonapi

Lamborghini will recall several units of the Huracan Evo and Huracan STO in the US for an issue pertaining to the left door handle of the car. The issue is not a major one and is easy to fix. However, it could be a safety issue in case of an emergency. Lamborghini determined that a recall was necessary to fix the issue on 10th June 2022. The Italian manufacturer is unaware of warranty or customer claims for this issue.

Lamborghini Huracan Evo & STO Recall – The Problem

Lamborghini is recalling a total of 21 units of Huracan Evo & STO. The affected vehicles have production dates between 2nd May 2022 and 9th May 2022. The issue affects the left exterior door handle of the car. The car has a safety clip for the cable, which unlatches the door. The cable may not be in the correct position of the vehicles Lamborghini is recalling. There is a possibility that the cable may become loose over time. Thus, it might not be possible to open the door from the outside.

Even though it will not affect the ability to open the door from the inside, it could be a problem in case of an emergency, like a crash, when trying to open the door from the outside. In addition to this, the customers will get no advance warning due to the nature of the failure mechanism.

During end-of-line checks in May 2022, Lamborghini found out that a safety clip at the end of opening the Bowden cable was not correctly rotated and engaged. Following this, the company launched an internal investigation to determine the topic’s scope and root cause. Lamborghini traced it to a human error during the specific step of the assembling process. However, it is important to note that there have been no reports of injury, accidents or fire incidents due to the recall.

Lamborghini notified its dealers of the problem on 17th June. Meanwhile, the company will notify the owners between 1st July and 8th July 2022.

Lamborghini Huracan Evo & STO Recall – The Solution

The company will notify the owners of the affected vehicles about the recall. Furthermore, Lamborghini will instruct them to arrange for an appointment with an authorised dealership to inspect the car. The Lamborghini dealers will then inspect the Huracan Evo and STOs for the safety clip positioning. If it is incorrect, the company will correct it free of cost. Post the correction, the door handles will have guaranteed correct engagement of the Bowden cable safety clip.
