Recall Alert! Indian FTR 1200 has cooling system issue

Written by Rohit Tonapi

Indian Motorcycles have issued a voluntary recall for its FTR range of motorcycles in India. This recall is a part of a global recall the Springfield-based American brand announced at the end of August 2022. The issue pertains to the motorcycle’s liquid-cooling system. Internationally, the potential number of motorcycles affected stands at 6,315. However, there is no confirmation regarding how many units of the FTR it affects in India.

Indian Motorcycles have also issued a stop sale notice to dealers in India. It is important to note that so far, there have been no complaints or injuries due to this recall in India or the international market where the brand sells these motorcycles.

Indian FTR 1200 Recall – The Problem

The affected models include – the 2020 FTR 1200 Rally, 2019-2020 FTR 1200 S and 2019-2020 and 2022 FTR 1200. Indian Motorcycles has found out that these models may experience a failure at the coolant junction. This could result in coolant loss during operation. Furthermore, the coolant may come in contact with the rider or the rear tyre. Thus, this could result in severe burns on the rider’s skin. If it comes in contact with the rear tyre, it would lead to a loss of grip, which could result in a crash.

Indian FTR 1200 Recall – The Solution

The brand states that it is currently evaluating a repair procedure for this concern. Once available, it will provide an update to its dealers in India in the coming weeks. Indian Motorcycles will contact customers of all affected models in India through its dealership network. Exact details remain unknown of how the brand will rectify the problem.

In the international market, Indian Motorcycles will replace the coolant junction. This replacement would be free of cost. Owners can contact the Indian Motorcycle customer service helpline or contact their dealerships for more information.
