Electrodrive Powertrain Solutions Pvt. Ltd. or Electra EV has revealed that the brand has retrofitted a Tata Nano with its electric powertrain. The custom-built 72V Nano EV was delivered to the brand founder Mr Ratan Tata. The company also revealed that it is awaiting feedback from Mr Tata as he drives the new electric car. This also reveals that the electric vehicles powertrain solutions company is focused on accelerating electric mobility in India. This also leads us to believe that Electra EV could be working on retrofitting ICE vehicles to EVs.
Tata Nano EV
ElectraEV reveals that the Tata Nano electric vehicle has been retrofitted with a 72V battery pack. The brand offers a wide range of battery options which ranges from 48V to 750V. The lithium-ion battery packs have been tested as per AIS 048 and certified by the ARAI. The battery packs from ElectraEV use chill force air-cooled technology and an intelligent and programmable battery management system. The brand also offers lithium iron phosphate battery packs that range from 16.6 kWh to 21.6 kWh. This enables the brand to offer a driving range of around 200 km on a single charge. The Nano EV is speculated to use such a battery pack and return a range of 190-210 km on a single charge.
ElectraEV Battery Packs
Currently, ElectraEV battery packs power the Neo and Xpres-T EV. The Xpres-T EV is essentially a derivative of Tigor EV targeted towards fleet customers. However, the new Tigor EV uses a Ziptron power unit which is also used on the Tata Nexon EV. The brand also boasts that more than twenty-five per cent of the total electric four-wheelers on Indian roads have an Electra EV powertrain inside them.
We do hope to see the Tata Nano EV get into production offering Indian buyers an affordable EV solution for day-to-day use.
