Two of India’s renowned automotive companies, Autoliv and Piaggio Group, announced their collaboration to develop a two-wheeler airbag. To improve rider safety, the two companies signed a joint development agreement for developing unique airbags. The mounting and placement of the airbags will take place on the vehicle frame, with its deployment occurring in milliseconds. Using advanced simulation tools and conducting full-scale crash tests, Autoliv has developed and drafted the initial concepts of the airbags.

Piaggio Group and Autoliv plan to develop the airbags even further and commercialize or potentially market the concept. Thanks to widespread urbanization and densification, the popularity of two-wheelers in India has risen sharply due to their everyday practicality. Modern-day two-wheelers include advanced safety systems and features such as ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation). Additionally, airbags on two-wheelers are a monumental step towards the safety of riders and a step in the right direction.

In August 2021, Piaggio’s renowned scooter celebrated its 75th anniversary, for which the brand launched a special edition. Named the 75th edition, the specially crafted scooter is available across all Vespa dealerships throughout the country. Piaggio offers the scooter with a bespoke glossy metallic Giallo shade in both 125cc and 150cc variants. Piaggio introduced the Vespa for India in 2012 and garnered a cult following thanks to its iconic Italian styling.
Special Edition Vespa
The special edition Vespa sports a number 75 on the side panel and front bumper, along with the new colour scheme. Finished in a matte metallic pyrite colour, the number 75 is also present on the glove box of the scooter. Piaggio has priced the 125cc variant at INR 1.25 (ex-showroom) and INR 1.39 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 150cc variant.
The scooter also features a high-lumen LED headlight with centre-integrated DRL and a front brake disc with ABS (150cc). Piaggio offers prospective customers a welcome kit containing Vespa’s 75-year journey, which pays tribute to the scooter’s reputation. Customers across India can produce a booking amount of INR 5,000 for the Vespa via its official online website.
