First showcased at the EICMA 2016 show in Milan, Piaggio brought the Vespa Elettrica concept to the Indian Auto Expo 2018. Although not meant to go on sale here in India anytime soon, this retro-styled scooter was kept on display to highlight that even in the electric age, the Vespa will be here to stay.

The Vespa brand has over 18 million models sold till date and around 1.5 million sold in the last decade alone. This highlights the popularity of the scooter. An icon in itself, the Vespa in the Elettrica avatar also looks very pleasing to the eye, especially in this chrome attire.

Piaggio claims that the styling, reliability, agility & practicality of a regular Vespa will remain even on the Vespa Elettrica.

Powering the Vespa Elettrica will be a 4.2 kWh Lithium-ion batter producing 5.4 BHP of peak power and a continuous power output of 2.6 BHP. The battery will have a 1,000 charging cycle life and the brand claims that the performance will be superior to a 50cc scooter. The scooter will also offer Eco & Power riding modes. On Eco mode, the speed will be limited to 30 kmph.

The Vespa Elettrica will be offered in 2 variants – standard with 100 km riding range and Elettrica X with 200 km riding range.

Piaggio will also offer a reverse gear option on the Vespa Elettrica.

Other features on this EV include LED headlamp, TFT instrument console, under seat storage, alloy wheels, contoured seats, chrome mirrors & tubeless tyres.
