Performance tests of Pininfarina Battista hypercar begin

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Automobili Pininfarina has announced that the world’s first pure electric luxury hypercar will make its debut at the Montery Car Week at Quail on 16th August 2019. The Battista is currently undergoing wind tunnel and simulation development program in Italy under the guidance of development driver Nick Heidfeld.

The Battista’s technical development program highlights will be shared with guests as a part of presentations at the House of Automobili Pininfarina near Pebble Beach golf club during the Monterey Car Week. Current and prospective clients have been personally invited to the company’s residence in Monterey where an enhanced version of the Battista Pure Electric hypercar with a refined front design, will be presented.

The wind tunnel testing and simulation dynamic tests of the car are underway and though details on the powertrain have not yet been revealed the all-electric hypercar is predicted to have a range of 450 km on a single charge. The long range is the result of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling and fine-tuning the aero package using CFD in a wind tunnel.

Nick Heidfeld an accomplished race driver along with Rene Wollmann who has experience in leading the development of the Mercedes-AMG Project One, will combine their expertise to make sure that the final product is a useable hypercar, which is the vision of Automobili Pininfarina. Nick Heidfeld’s 20 years of experience racing and developing Formula 1 and Formula E cars will help the company assess the driving experience offered by the powertrain which develops 1,900 HP of power and 2,299.4 Nm of torque, through a hyper-realistic simulator to fine-tune aerodynamics, minimize drag and maximise cooling.
