Over 1 million sales for Maruti Suzuki Utility Vehicles

Written by Parichay Malvankar

99% of the time, when Maruti Suzuki does it, they do get it right. The brand has now revealed that although they dominate the hatchback space for the budget conscious buyer, they have clocked more than 1 million sales with their range of  utility vehicles. The brand currently has the Vitara Brezza SUV, S-Cross crossover and Ertiga MUV in their UV portfolio and have recently added the premium XL6 MPV which retails via the Nexa channel.

The Vitara Brezza has been a very successful compact-SUV and has possibly achieved the highest sales (cumulative) in the segment. The S-Cross was off to a very slow start initially when it was launched, but after the facelift, this crossover started showing good sales numbers. The Ertiga for years has been a favourite and reliable family MPV and the new XL6 just adds a dose of extra comfort and premiumness to it.

For FY 2019-20, Maruti Suzuki has registered has achieved a market share of 25.46% in the first 4 months itself, hinting that in a slowing down market, they are still going strong. Maruti Suzuki has focus on delivering the best value for money to their customers, in every segment and hence, in UVs, the value proposition stands out much better than competition. The Vitara Brezza dominated the compact-SUV segment with just one DDiS 200 diesel engine option for years. The new Ertiga with the new 1.5L petrol engine has also won the hearts of the customers, and it also offers an automatic gearbox.

The S-Cross, XL6 & Ertiga come with SHVs technology which comes with an integrated starter generator (ISG) and a torque boost function in low speed driving which helps reduce the fuel consumption and also allowing for better engine driveability.

The S-Cross and XL6 are sold via the premium Nexa showrooms while the Ertiga and Vitara Brezza retail from the Maruti Suzuki Arena showrooms.
