Commercial vehicles’ new emission rule in Delhi – All details
The Delhi government has recently passed a new emission law for commercial vehicles entering or being used inside the national capital. The new rule, which will come into effect from November 1, states no entry to the CVs that are not BS6, CNG, LNG, or completely electric.
As per the government, the new emission law has been carefully curated after analysing the increasing pollution levels in the city. Moreover, only the vehicles registered in Delhi will be exempted from this new emission law.
To monitor the number of commercial vehicles entering the state, the government will install “Automatic Number Plate Registration Cameras”, which will identify the vehicles nearing the end of their lifecycle as proposed/allowed by the RTO.
Additionally, similar cameras will be installed at numerous fuel stations across Delhi. These cameras will not only help in categorising the old vehicles, but also generate traffic fines against the illegal use.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government is also planning to curate its first-ever artificial rain to lower emissions. For this, the government is already in talks with the IIT Kanpur experts.
Our verdict
The new Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025 of the Delhi government looks promising. No matter how much we ignore it, the ever-increasing pollution in the national capital has created serious issues, and it needs to be countered as soon as possible.
