Okinawa ‘Oki100’ 100% localised electric motorcycle to be launched in FY 2020-21

Gurugram headquartered Okinawa – India’s first fully-electric two-wheeler manufacturer and the first electric vehicle manufacturer in India to receive FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacture of hybrid and Electric vehicles) subsidiary has announced that the brand will be making its first 100% fully localized electric two-wheeler – ‘OKI 100’ to promote the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ vision. 

The brand has also shared that all the components except the battery cells of the upcoming Oki 100 will be manufactured in India. The Oki 100 was displayed at the Auto Expo 2018 and received a strong positive response from the attendees at the biennial event. The Oki 100 will be launched in FY 2020-21 and will be powered by a lithium-ion battery pack and can achieve a top speed of 100 kmph. 

At present, Okinawa offers a maximum of 88% of localization on its electric two-wheelers which with the upcoming EV will be pushed to nearly 100% and Okinawa will be manufacturing and sourcing all the components from local vendors to achieve the same which will also help in boosting and widening the supplier base. 

Okinawa currently retails the Ridge, praise, Ridge+, iPraise+, PraisePro models in India along with the ‘Lite’ the brand’s latest entry in the electric two-wheeler segment powered by a 250 Watt BLDC waterproof motor with a 1.25 kWh lithium-ion battery that has a 48V output that can propel the electric scooter to 25 kmph with 50-60 km of riding range on a single charge. 

The brand at the Auto Expo 2020 also revealed its new prototype electric scooter called ‘Cruiser’ – a maxi-scooter that features a detachable 4 kWh lithium-ion battery and the brand claims that the Cruiser can do a top speed on 100 kmph and has a claimed range of 120 km on a single charge. 

In related news, the brand has also announced the increase of dealer margins from 8% to 11% per sale to relieve its dealers to survive the cost crunch created amidst COVID-19 outbreak.
