Official! Hyundai announces all-new SUV for India

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Hyundai has officially announced a new SUV for the Indian market. This is an all-new SUV which will slot in below the Venue, and as we all know, it could very well be the Hyundai Casper sold abroad, or a heavily reworked version of it. This new micro-SUV when launched, will rival the likes of Tata Punch. The brand claims that this new car has been developed keeping in mind the explorer mindset of potential customers. Hyundai clearly states that this product has been designed & developed keeping in mind the needs of the Gen MZ customers.

New SUV Launch Timeline:

Now that this all-new SUV has been announced, we can expect the product launch and deliveries by the festive season of 2023, or even before. Expect Hyundai to share full details in a phased manner, starting with the name of the car, then exterior & interior sketches, then a few product feature teasers which will eventually lead to the full product unveil. Most likely, this Made-in-India new SUV will also be exported to emerging markets. Hyundai says the launch is imminent though, so this new SUV could arrive sooner than expected.

SUV or Raised Hatchback?

Now typical of this segment, the all-new SUV from Hyundai would be more of a crossover, than SUV. So no 4×4 or AWD. This will be a front-wheel drive entry-level model from Hyundai, and the brand needs a high volume vehicle in this segment especially since the Santro is now gone. Expect the new car to be a comfortable product for 4, with SUV-like styling elements and a generous ground clearance to tackle the Indian terrain. Hyundai claims that this new product will offer new tech, better safety and good performance as per segment standards.

Under The Hood?

Although termed as an SUV, do not expect a diesel engine option. Hyundai’s diesel car lineup will start from the Venue now, and this product will most likely get a single petrol engine option. Along with a manual, an AMT transmission is also likely if the customer clinics have suggested that there is such demand in the segment. So the same motor which drives the Grand i10 Nios, should be under the hood of this new SUV as well.
