Nissan C-SUV – Is it the comeback of the Terrano moniker?

In a recent press meet in Japan, Nissan has revealed the crucial details and plans for its upcoming two products. One of these is a compact SUV that is based on the 2025 Renault Duster.

The company plans to manufacture, sell, and export this upcoming SUV from its alliance plant with Renault based in Chennai, India. Moreover, it will also be launched in India next year.

As per the alliance with Renault, Nissan has been selling sister products like the Magnite and, earlier, the Terrano, in India and other global markets. Now, the new C-SUV will share the majority of its design and parts with the new-gen Duster.

Nissan upcoming models

Mind you, the Dacia Duster has already been revealed in select European markets. It features a new chassis, interiors, and an array of hybrid powertrain options.

However, the new Duster is also inbound for India, and it is likely to debut later this year. Following its launch, the Nissan counterpart will debut next year.

While the exterior and cabin details are yet unknown, the teaser image shows a unique design that is inspired by the 2025 Nissan Patrol.

Powering the new C-SUV will be the same engine option as powering the new-gen duster. However, the Indian-spec might not get the plug-in hybrid version. Only the 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol and the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol options will be launched in India.

Our verdict

The re-entry of the Japanese car maker in the most competitive and potent segment of C-SUVs in India is going to be critical for its growth. The Terrano, which was earlier sold as the only C-SUV, did an amazing job in establishing Nissan as a solid car brand in India. We expect the same to be repeated with this new C-SUV model.
