Nissan Magnite engine and sales update details
As per the press release shared by Nissan India, the Magnite has now been updated with the E20-compatible 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Earlier, the NA petrol option was not compatible with the latest fuel norms. However, Nissan had updated its 1.0-litre tubro-petrol engine with the E20 compatibility long before.
Mind you, the BR10 (codename) engine is a 999cc, three-cylinder unit that generates 71 bhp and 96 Nm of peak power and torque. It is available with the options of a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission.
While its power output looks modest on paper, it does the everyday driving job well. Additionally, the simplicity of the BR10 engine makes it affordable to own, as the cost positioning is aggressive.
For customers wanting more punch and performance, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is better suited. It is the same 999cc, three-cylinder mill, but it makes 96 bhp and 161 Nm of peak torque. It is also mated to a smooth CVT auto gearbox option.
Moving on, Nissan has also announced that the Magnite has crossed the 50,000 unit sales mark since its production started in 2020. Currently, Nissan is working on the Magnite CNG and the facelift model, which are bound to debut in the coming months.

Our verdict
The Magnite is a value-for-money compact SUV that offers a spacious cabin and efficient performance. However, it is long overdue for a thorough update with new design changes. Nissan is expected to launch the facelifted Magnite model by the end of this year.
