Japanese car manufacturer Lexus has unveiled the spiritual successor to its world-renowned LFA supercar called the Lexus Electrified Sport. Lexus unveiled the concept prototype as part of the Toyota Global launch on December 15th, which consisted of 16 EV concepts. The brand has stated that it plans to launch the production version of the concept by the year 2030. Lexus has already stated that it aims to fully embrace electrification by 2030, where all its products will be EVs.

Lexus Electrified Sport (LFA): Details

Lexus claims that the new Electrified Sport concept is a fully-electric sports car that inherits the performance from the LFA. The brand has used all its expertise and experience from building the LFA into the new concept and future EVs. According to sources, Lexus will equip the production-ready LFA with new solid-state batteries that offer a 690 Km driving range. Lexus also claims that the production-ready LFA will accelerate from 0-100 kmph in under 2 seconds.

The showcased concept car’s design takes major inspiration from the original Lexus LFA from 2011 by featuring a long bonnet. The concept car also features a unique carb-rear silhouette with low-profile tyres, a distinct aero package, and numerous air intakes. To showcase its hints at being a track-oriented supercar, the Lexus Electrified Sport features a red tow at the front. With regards to its solid-state batteries, parent company Toyota also plans to install those in their production EVs.

Future Plans

Lexus has previously stated that in the next 5 years, it plans to end production of ICE cars. With this decision, Lexus will only focus on selling EVs to specific markets such as Europe, North America, and China. In the coming months, the Japanese automakers will officially unveil their first bespoke EV crossover, called the RZ for 2022.

Lexus showcased this new crossover in a production-ready guise alongside the Electrified Sport supercar at Toyota’s recent EV global unveiling. For the Indian market, Lexus launched the updated ES300H facelift at a price of INR 56,65,000 (ex-showroom). Apart from this, the automaker has not revealed any other plans to launch a new vehicle during the year 2022.
