Patent images of the next-generation Isuzu MU-X SUV have emerged on the internet. According to the patent images, the new MU-X will come with a completely new design with a completely new front and rear fascia, completely new headlamps and taillamps and is expected to come with new interiors as well. Some of the underpinnings however could be shared with the current generation model. The MU-X in the current generation measure 4825mm in length, 1860mm in width and 1840mm in height and comes with a 2845mm wheelbase.

The patent images reveal that the next-generation model features a horizontally slated grille design with chrome embellishments, sleek headlamp units, a skid plate, fog lamp units that reverberate with the headlamps, a muscular bonnet, rounded wheel arches, blacked-out B and C pillars, a chrome window beltline, wraparound effect rear windscreen, sleek taillamps that echo the front and faux exhaust tips on the lower rear apron.

Though details on the interiors are scarce at the moment, the MU-X is likely to come with 7 seats, plush leather upholstery, automatic climate control air-conditioning, keyless entry with engine start/stop button, etc. The dashboard layout is also expected to be new but at this time it is difficult to hypothesize the interior design. The current generation model comes with a twin cockpit layout along with a flowing centre console, a centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system, analogue instruments cluster and steering mounted controls.

In the Indian market, the Isuzu MU-X was discontinued from sale as the brand did not upgrade its engine to BS6 emission standards. The BS4 compliant version is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo diesel, in-line 4-cylinder, DOHC, 16-valve engine with Intercooled Variable Geometry System (VGS) turbocharger with Variable Swirl System (VSS) that produces 177 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque matched to a torque converter type, electronically controlled Automatic with Sequential Shift & Brake Shift Lock and a 4×4 driveline with “Terrain Command” control with ‘shift-on-the-fly’ 2-high 4-high selection at up to 100 km/h.
