New Tata SUV to be called Scarlet?
As reported online, Tata Motors is working on a new sub-4-meter SUV, which is internally codenamed ‘Scarlet’. This new SUV is likely to be positioned as a ‘lifestyle SUV’, to create a new niche and keep the sales flow for other models unaffected.
However, very few details about the new compact SUV are known. What we do know is that it will be taking its design inspiration from the upcoming Sierra.
This means it will feature an upright, boxy, and tall design, with probably big window glasses, to give it a ‘mini-Sierra’ outlook.
As far as the engine is concerned, Tata’s 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine might be used to power it. Tata plans to sell it alongside the Nexon, but due to the radical design, the Scarlet SUV is likely to create its own customer segment.
Additionally, Tata is also developing two new compact electric cars, which are codenamed Kuno and Terra. These new models are suspected to debut in India early next year, most probably at the annual Bharat Mobility Expo.
Our verdict
Tata Motors has shifted its focus towards new segments and lifestyle products, which are expected to expand in the coming years. The upcoming models, like the Scarlet, will be designed for the new-generation young buyers demanding flair and uniqueness.
