New Mercedes-Benz B-Class revealed

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Mercedes-Benz B-Class is one interesting model that stands out in the crowd. Now to keep up with the competition the German brand has given it slight upgrades. Similar to the Mercedes-Benz A-Class facelift that was launched recently, the updates on the new B-Class too are subtle. Thus needs to have a detailed look to identify the changes.

What Are The Changes In The New B-Class?

Changes start with the revised headlights that now get LEDs as optional. There’s also a reworked grille with a modified front bumper and taillights. After all the car now has a more angular appeal.

Coming to its wheels, the upgrades include four new options to choose from, all measuring up to 19 inches. The AMG Line model gets striking glossy black wheels with a multi-spoke configuration. Customers will have the freedom to choose from a total of 10 solid or metallic body colours. This in addition to special colours offered as optional. The interior remains pretty much the same. The key highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen for the MBUX, a standard 7.0-inch instrument cluster or an optional 10.25-inch display.

Mercedes is now using a new Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel as standard. This is the first time that an AMG variant gets a heated steering function. The entry-level variant gets a rearview camera, the USB Package, and better seats. Meanwhile, the higher variants add new colour combinations for the upholstery and a star pattern as well.

Minimal Mechanical Upgrades

There is only one change as far as the mechanicals go. The B250e plug-in hybrid model gets an updated electric motor. With this, the car is now generating an additional 7 bhp at 107 hp. Mercedes confirmed that the battery is now capable of charging via alternating current at up to 11 kW. Meanwhile, through a DC connection at 22 kW, charging will take 25 minutes to go from 10 to 80 per cent.

The car continues to use the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options. The 2.0-litre oil burner in the base B180d trim does a 0 to 100 kmph run in under 10 seconds. Meanwhile, the range-topping B220d trim does the same sprint in 7.4 seconds. The 2.0-litre petrol motor in the B180 trim reaches 100 kmph from a standstill in 9.4 seconds. And the same run is done in 6.5 seconds in the range-topping B250 4Matic variant.
