New Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG coming soon, specs leak

Written by Kanad Kalasur

With rising fuel prices, buyers are opting for CNG variants of popular cars. While CNG has always been restricted to certain cars and variants, these days, manufacturers are offering CNG as an alternative to diesel. Maruti has stopped selling diesel engines since BS6 norms kicked in. The carmaker provides CNG on cars like the Alto, Celerio, S-Presso, Swift, Dzire, WagonR, Ertiga, etc., but now it looks like Brezza will get a CNG option.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG variants

According to a leaked parts compatibility page on the Maruti’s website, Brezza would be offered four trims – Lxi, Vxi, Zxi and Zxi+. It also appears that an automatic option would be offered on Vxi, Zxi and Zxi+ variants. This would make Brezza the first automatic transmission car to come with a CNG option from the factory. Further, customers will not have to compromise on features or gearbox options thanks to these variant offerings.

The Brezza CNG will get the same K15C Smart Hybrid 1.5-litre petrol engine. When running in the petrol mode, the engine produces 102 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 136.8 Nm @ 4,400 rpm. The same engine does duty in the Ertiga, and in CNG mode, it develops 87 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 121.5 Nm @ 4,200 rpm. Maruti would likely offer the same tune in the Brezza. Transmission duties would be handled by a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Features of Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG

Maruti could offer the same features as the petrol counterparts on the CNG variants. CNG-specific changes could include an updated driver information display to accommodate CNG fuel levels, a CNG/petrol switchover button, a fire extinguisher and a CNG tank in the boot.

In the top-spec Zxi+ trim, the customer will get a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system, ARKAMYS premium sound system with Surround Sense, OTA updates, onboard voice assistance, MID with TFT colour display, electric sunroof, wireless charging, type A and C USB charging at the back, cruise control and cooled glove box.
Safety kit could get a head-up display, 360-degree camera, front, side and curtain airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist, rearview camera, reverse parking sensor and an anti-theft security alarm.
