Written by Kanad Kalasur

Maruti Suzuki has launched the updated 2023 Ignis in India. While there has been only a few changes made, the car now gets safety features like ESP and hill-hold as standard. The price of the car has also been increased by INR 27,000 across the variants.

What’s new in the 2023 Maruti Suzuki Ignis?

Apart from the aforementioned safety features, Maruti has also updated the engine to meet the new emission regulations. The engine now meets the Real Driving Emissions (RDE). There have been no mechanical changes otherwise. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor continues to make 83 HP and is offered with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The car’s fuel economy is 20.89 km/l.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis and its competitors

The Ignis competes with cars like the Maruti Swift, Tata Tiago, Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS and others. While the Ignis was back in 2017, it got a facelift in 2020.

Nexa Black Edition

Recently, Maruti launched the Nexa Black edition. Maruti is offering its range of Nexa cars, including the Ignis, in a new ‘Pearl Midnight Black’. These all-black models will be called as the Nexa Black Edition. In terms of pricing, there will be no extra charge for opting for the Nexa black edition. Along side, the company had also launched an accessory pack for all cars sold in Nexa.

Ignis Crash test results

Back in December, the India-spec Maruti Suzuki Ignis was tested by GNCAP.  In this crash test, the hatchback got a 1-star rating overall under the new and upgraded Global NCAP crash test protocol for India. The high-riding hatchback received poor scores for both the side impact and child protection tests as well. The testers also flagged the driver’s and passenger’s knees as marginal protection. This was because they could come in contact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard. Meanwhile, GNCAP rated Ignis’ body shell as unstable and incapable of withstanding further loadings. These findings are pretty much in line with the crash test of the pre-facelift 2019 Ignis.
