Mitsubishi cars coming back to Indian market?

Mitsubishi wrapped up its business in the Indian market years ago. Its Indian component, Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation Limited also called off its deal with a Jamshedpur based company, which were planning to revive the brand. Mitsubishi in India was having just two digit sales in its final years and the brand announced the closure of its factory for its domestic production subsidiary, the Pajero Manufacturing Co., Ltd., in the first half of 2021.

Mitsubishi to Invest in TVS Mobility

Now, reports suggest that Mitsubishi could be planning to make a comeback in the Indian market. Media reports suggest that Mitsubishi will be taking 30% stakes of TVS Mobility with an investment between USD 33 Million to USD 66 Million. However, it is also important to note that this is still subject to approvals.

Mitsubishi Showrooms in India

The company will have dedicated showrooms for each of the car brand’s. TVS Mobility already has Honda Cars as part of the line-up. In addition to this, Mitsubishi is also likely to bring its electric vehicle line-up to the Indian market. Furthermore, the company will also offers services such as booking appointments as well as purchasing insurance. Mitsubishi is likely to reenter the Indian market as soon as this summer.

Will Mitsubishi Bring the Outlander to India?

Well, currently the brand has not revealed any plans to bring its vehicles to the Indian market. However, the strong demand in the SUV segment could encourage the Japanese brand to bring the Outlander SUV which is already on sale in the international market.

The Outlander in the North American market comes with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. The motor makes 181 Hp of power and 245 Nm of torque and comes with an 8-step CVT gearbox. The Outlander also gets four-wheel-drive and Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Mud and Snow modes.

Will Mitsubishi bring the Outlander SUV to India? The questions remains.
