MG has unveiled the performance version of the MG4 EV. The new XPower badged car will be available in the UK with prices starting at GBP 36,495. The car will be showcased first at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 13 July 2023.
What’s new in the MG4 XPower?
The MG4 XPower is nothing but the Chinese MG Mulan Triumph Edition for the UK market. Compared to the regular MG4 EV, the XPower gets 18-inch alloys with Bridgestone Turanza tires, orange brake callipers and an exclusive Racing Green colour option.
That said, the major changes have been made under the hood. MG claims these upgrades have put the MG4 EV in the hot hatch segment. In terms of upgrades, the chassis is now sportier and the suspension is 25 percent stiffer. MG has recalibrated spring and dampers and used stiffer anti-roll-bars. THe steering is made more sharper and the car comes with larger disc brakes and stronger regen braking. The 100-0 km/h braking is done in just 33.9 metres.
Powertrain of the MG4 XPower
The MG4 XPower comes with dual electric motors. The front one is rated at 150 kW and the rear comes with a 170 kW. The combined output is 435 PS and 600 Nm. Thanks to these numbers, the car is “most powerful production MG ever”. The company claims a 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds.
The powerful version of the MG4 also gets a Dynamic Cornering Control System that combines an electronic locking differential with torque vectoring. This sends power to all four wheels. This is an MG first. Further the electric hot hatch’s Dynamic Cornering Control System helps distribute all the available power much more effectively. This results in not only good cornering performance but also increasing the driver engagement.
MG claims to have improved the regeneration as well which allows one pedal driving in many more situations.
