MG has announced that their 100% electric vehicle, the ZS EV is quite a hit in the European market. MG ZS EV made its debut in the European market back in 2019. Since then, the brand has slowly but steadily strengthened its foothold not just in the UK but also in Norway, which is the world’s top EV adopting country.

In April 2021, the car sales market in Norway comprised of 55% fully electric vehicles. If Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles are considered, this number goes up to 80%. Even with pure electric vehicles, Norway has the best ICE to EV ratio in the world. Even in such as competitive market, the MG ZS EV ranked in the top 7th position overall.

According to IEA’s Global Electric Vehicle Outlook 2021, electric vehicle sales jumped 41% to 3 million electric cars in 2020 in the global market. In 2020, the EV sales market share in Europe stood at 1.4 million units. The report further suggests that even though the global automobile market contracted by 16% in 2020, there was hardly any effect on the electric vehicle market. Neither the economic recession nor the pandemic has had much impact on electric car buyers.

Leading the Electric Vehicle market in Norway is the Volkswagen ID.4. The brand sold 1,824 units in April 2021 and 2,684 between Jan-April 2021 (YTD – Year-To-Date). Tesla Model 3 takes second place with only 4 units sold in April, but 2,570 units sold YTD. Audi sold 668 units of the e-Tron in April 2021 and 2,450 YTD. Volvo sold 469 units of the Polestar 2 in April 2021, with 1,730 units sold YTD. Nissan sold 313 units of the Leaf with 1,678 units sold YTD. Mercedes-Benz sold 378 units of the EQC with 1,591 units sold YTD. In April 2021, MG sold 187 units of the ZS EV with YTD sales of 1,047 units. The BMW i3 takes the number 8 spot with 225 units sold in April 2021 in Norway and YTD sales of 716 units.
MG ZS EV Power Unit Specifications
Powering the MG ZS EV is a 142.7 PS / 353 Nm electric motor that draws power from a 44.5kWh Ultra High-Density lithium-ion battery. The battery pack comes with an IP-67 ingress protection rating. The battery pack is capable of delivering a range of around 419 km on a single charge. MG also claims to have optimised the battery for the Indian climatic conditions.
