MG Motors showcased a new crossover at their pavilion at the Auto Expo 2020. The MG RC6 is a Sedan, Coupe and SUV all rolled into one, which MG plans to launch in India in the coming years.
On the exterior, the MG RC6 features a chrome-accented grille with diamond-like elements, LED daytime running lights, projector headlamps, bumper integrated round fog lights, a splitter style lower bumper and a muscular bonnet line. Coming to the sides, the RC6 features 18-inch alloy wheels, door cladding, a fastback styled sloping roof and LED taillights.
On the interior, the RC6 features a dark theme and gets twin displays set on the same plane – a 12.3-inch LED cluster acts as the driver’s information display while another 12.3-inch is a touchscreen infotainment system, a feature that is offered in certain high-end German cars. The infotainment system is likely to come with MG’s connectivity features with voice commands, over the air updates (OTA), remote control etc. The car also gets a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a chunky aircraft-styled gear selector lever, orange accented air-con vents, automatic climate control, contoured dual-tone seat upholstery and an electrically adjustable driver side seat among others.
The MG RC6 will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 146.8 ps of power and 250 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed manual and an optional CVT transmission. The exterior dimensions of the MG RC6 measure in at 4925mm in length, 1880mm in width, 1580mm in height with a wheelbase of 2800mm.
In terms of safety, the RC6 is likely to be offered with multiple airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability programme and other automotive-industry standard features.
The MG RC6 is derived from the Baojun RC6 which also has the same parent company (SAIC), but the brand plans to locally assemble the car at the MG’s Halol plant in Gujarat, India to keep the prices competitive. The MG RC6 is speculated to be launched around the next year with prices in the range of INR 15 to 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The MG RC6 was most likely showcased at the Auto Expo in India to asses and receive feedback from the Indian consumers.
