MG Motor India – What Next?

MG could be planning to develop a new platform for the global markets. According to reports, the brand established its footing through the premium midsized SUV segment in India. Now MG plans to focus on the segment again but this time on a global level.

In addition to this, the brand also plans to introduce the new platform in India after it makes its debut in the international market. Thanks to this, speculation is that MG cars with multiple body style are likely to emerge. Furthermore, the brand is likely to offer both Hybrid and Full Electric powertrains.

According to sources, MG could introduce a Hector size SUV as well as an Innova sized MPV using the new midsized platform. In addition to this, the brand is also likely to offer a sedan using the modular platform. The cars are likely to come with multiple powertrain options which includes petrol strong-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric options.

In terms of pricing, the full-electric sedan vehicle is likely to be priced under the INR 20 lakh mark. Furthermore, the Hector sized SUV is also likely to come with a price tag of around INR 20 lakh. Also, the all-electric MPV based on the same platform could come with a price of around INR 25 lakh.

The brand is likely to offer the low prices on the vehicles thanks to the new production facilities near Halol. The brand already has a manufacturing plant in Halol and scouting is underway in the Halol area to set up a new plant for EV production. Reports suggest that, all three electric vehicles will be made at this new production plants keeping the price in check. In addition to the all-electric powertrain the brand is also likely to produce Plug-In Hybrids.

Vehicles based on MG new midsized platform are likely to make their debut in China by the end of this year.
