MG Motor India could launch a new compact electric hatchback and SUV in the Indian market. Currently, the brand offers the MG ZS EV electric SUV in India that comes with a price tag starting at INR 21 lakh ex-showroom. Reportedly, the brand is targeting the entry-level electric market, which is currently booming in India. The Tata Nexon EV in the Indian market starts at INR 13.99 lakh ex-showroom.

MG Electric Vehicle Price Speculation

MG could be targetting the price range below INR 10 lakh ex-showroom to help compete with the Nexon EV SUV. Also, the brand could be planning to launch the Baojun E200 and a compact hatchback rebranded as an MG electric vehicle. Both the compact SUV and the hatchback are likely to underpin the Baojun E200 platform.

Baojun E200

The Baojun E200 is a popular electric compact hatch sold in the Chinese market. MG’s parent company SAIC Motor Corporation LTD, formerly known as Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, retails the E200 starting at CNY 54,800 MSRP. The price roughly converts to INR 6.25 lakh in India. With high levels of localisation, MG will be able to price the E200 compact hatchback in India competitively.

Baojun E200 – Technical Specifications

The Baojun E200 measures 2,497 mm in length, 1,526 mm in width and 1,616 mm tall. This makes the electric car nearly half the length of a standard sedan in India. Thanks to its compact size, the hatchback will be able to traverse the urban jungle with ease. Users will be able to park their car with ease, especially in metropolitan cities where parking space is a premium. The vehicle also comes with a 3.8-metre turning radius making it easy to park and drive around town.

Baojun E200 – Range and Safety

Baojun claims a range of 250 km on a single charge according to the NEDC cycle. The brand also boasts that the E200 is made with 42.9% ultra-high-strength and high-strength steel, and the lithium-ion battery pack and cab are framed and caged for safety. The car also comes with an 8-year/120,000 km battery warranty in China. Users can recharge the vehicle using a 220V household plug point.

MG plans to introduce the E200 compact hatchback and the compact SUV that will also spawn from the E200 electric platform by 2024 in India.
