MG Gloster luxury SUV teased on official website, launch after Hector Plus

MG has teased the MG Gloster SUV on the official Indian website confirming the launch of the SUV in the Indian market. The luxury SUV was showcased at the 15th edition of the Auto Expo 2020 in Delhi before the lockdown was imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The brand has now teased us with the silhouette image of the MG Gloster SUV which highlights its sleek wraparound headlamps, large chrome embellished grille with chrome studded intake mesh, C-shaped chrome inserts on the foglight area, a metallic skid plate indicating that the SUV can tread over broken surfaces, a chrome window line and wraparound tail lamps on the rear. 

At the biennial event, the showcased car came with a different grille design and other than that the SUV for India is likely to remain the same. The Gloster is actually a rebadged version of the Maxus D90 which is sold in the Chinese market, a marquee owned by SAIC, the parent company of the heritage British brand MG Motors. 

While full specifications of the MG Gloster are not yet available, but the Maxus D90 which essentially the same car measures in at 5005mm in length, 1932mm in width and 1875mm in height with a wheelbase of 2950mm. To put things into perspective it primary rival the Toyota Fortuner is 4795mm long, 1855mm wide and 1835mm tall with a wheelbase of 2745mm. 

On the interior, the MG Gloster is likely to feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.0-inch instruments display, front seats with heating, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, ventilation and massage functions, connectivity features, gesture-controlled tailgate, heated ORVMs, etc. 

The MG Gloster is expected to come powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine that produces 218 PS of power and 480 Nm of torque matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission. There is another 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine offered in the international market that generates 224.34 PS of power and 360 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic but the brand is likely to bring the Gloster with the former engine spec.
