JSW MG Motor India has announced a significant price hike for two of its popular models—the Gloster SUV and Comet EV. The price hike, effective from May 2025, sees the Gloster’s cost increase by up to INR 1.51 lakh, while the Comet EV gets a bump of up to INR 35,700.

MG Gloster: Price Hike and New Costs

The MG Gloster, the brand’s flagship SUV, has received a uniform price hike across all variants. The Sharp Turbo 4X2 7-seater variant now costs INR 41.07 lakh, up from INR 39.56 lakh—a INR 1.51 lakh increase.

Other variants, including the Savvy Turbo 4X2 and Savvy Twin Turbo 4X4, have seen a INR 1.5 lakh price increase, bringing the top-end model’s price to INR 45.53 lakh (ex-showroom).

MG Comet EV: Price Hike Across Variants

The Comet EV, MG’s smallest and most affordable electric car, has also seen a price revision. The entry-level Executive variant now costs INR 7.36 lakh, reflecting a INR 35,700 increase.

Mid-range models like the Excite and Excite FC have seen price hikes of INR 16,000 and INR 4,000, respectively. Other trims, including the Exclusive and Blackstorm FC, have received a uniform INR 5,300 increase.

Why the Price Hike?

The price revision comes just weeks ahead of the launch of the MG Majestor, a new SUV that will be positioned above the Gloster. MG has been adjusting its pricing strategy to align with market trends and rising production costs.

Market Impact and Customer Response

The Gloster’s price hike makes it one of the most expensive SUVs in its segment, competing with the Toyota Fortuner and Jeep Meridian. Meanwhile, the Comet EV remains India’s most affordable electric car, despite the price increase.

Our Thoughts

MG’s latest price hike is interesting but expected. The Gloster’s INR 1.51 lakh increase is steep, but the SUV still offers ADAS tech and premium features. The Comet EV’s price bump is more manageable, keeping it accessible for urban buyers.
