MG eZS Electric SUV production begins in India, launch in 2019

MG short for Morris Garages has announced that the MG eZS which is a purely electric vehicle will be manufactured at the MG facility in Halol, Gujarat. The MG eZS is a global EV and the car will be introduced in India in December this year and the carmaker has produced the first prototype on the event of World Environment Day.

The EV is already on test across the country and is currently being tested in different environments. The MG eZS follows the mid-size SUV design language and has a seating capacity of 5 people and a large boot space with an efficient and eco-friendly electric powertrain. 

In terms of styling, the EV gets a chrome-accented grille with a large ‘MG’ logo in the centre and the charging socket hidden behind it. The lower end of the bumper gets a silver finished faux skid plate and air ducts. The headlight has a projector lamp setup with daytime running lights. The EV has a different design 5-spoke alloy wheels as compared to its internal combustion engine sibling other wise both the vehicle are identical. The rear bumper of the car also gets faux skid plate in a silver finish along with faux air ducts on the outer ends. The tailgate gets an MG badge in the centre and sleek LED taillights with a third stop light above the rear windshield.

On the interior, the eZS gets a twin-dial layout on the instrument console with a speedometer on the left-hand side and a lot of tell-tale lights. The drive selector on the EV is a rotary knob, in brushed-metal finish with a knurled pattern around it. The EV gets a centrally located large infotainment system with the climate control switch gear under it and the EV gets steering mounted controls as well.

In the Chinese market, the EV is powered by a 150 HP electric motor which is powerful enough to propel the car from 0-50 kmph in 3.1 seconds. The EV will be equipped with a lithium-ion battery and can deliver a range of 335 km on a single charge, as per the NEDC cycle.

In India, the MG eZS will be introduced by the end of this year and will compete with the Hyundai Kona which is expected to launch next month.
