Written by Nizam Shaikh

MG Motor India came to the Auto Expo 2023 with several of its models from its international lineup. The aim of this was to gauge customer interest in the country by displaying various EV and Plug-in Hybrid models. One of the models that MG Motor India brought to the Auto Expo 2023 was the eHS PHEV.

MG eHS PHEV – What Is It?

The eHS is a mid-segment PHEV positioned above the MG Astor. The SUV is currently on sale in the European market. MG reveals that the eHS Plug-in Hybrid is the perfect SUV for those transitioning to electric powertrain but still want the flexibility of going long distances.

MG eHS PHEV – Exterior Highlights

While MG is likely to position the eHS above the Astor, it closely resembles the pre-facelift ZS EV that was available in India. Talking about the size, the MG eHS PHEV SUV measures 4,574mm in length, 1,876mm in width and 1,664mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,720mm. The SUV also comes with a ground clearance of 145mm. In the European market, the MG eHS comes with either 17-inch wheels or 18-inch rims, depending on the variant.

MG eHS PHEV – Interior Highlights

On the inside, in typical MG fashion, it comes loaded with a lot of technology. MG claims that the eHS offers class-leading room in the front as well as reclining seats in the rear. The brand has also used premium materials throughout the interior. The SUV also comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Like all the latest MGs, the eHS also features connected car tech. Additionally, MG also offers it with a full suite of ADAS features that it calls MG Pilot.

MG eHS PHEV – Technical Specifications

Powering the eHS is a 1.5-litre direct injection turbo-petrol engine that makes 160 HP of power and 250 Nm of torque. The eHS also comes with an electric motor that produces 120 HP of power and 230 Nm of torque. The electric motor draws power from a 16.6 kWh battery pack. This allows the eHS to have a WLTP-certified EV-only range of 52 km.

The combined output of the eHS PHEV stands at 254 HP and 480 Nm. Power is sent to the wheels through a 10-speed Electronic Drive Unit that consists of a 4-speed gear for the electric motor and a 6-speed gear for the engine that works together. This helps the eHS to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 190 kmph.
