Mercedes-Benz is likely to hike prices of all the models sold in India effective from 1st September, 2014. This decision has been made due to rising input costs and the high exchange rate which has been hampering the German marques profitability.

Price hike expected in to be in the range of 2.5%. However, the effective hike might vary from variant to variant. Mercedes-Benz currently sells a range of luxury cars starting from the A-Class hatchback to the super premium S-Class sedan.

Despite the price hike, Mercedes-Benz will try and keep their customers happy with attractive offers from their financial services such as ‘Flexinomics’, ‘Star Agility, Star Lease’ and ‘Star Supersonic’ loan approvals etc.

Rising input costs and resultant price hike with take the entry level cars for the brand a notch higher. Now, the A-Class might cost even more. Audi recently launched the A3 sedan at a stellar price of Rs. 22.95 lakh (ex-showroom). What do you think would a customer prefer? A compact luxury sedan? Or a swanky hatchback?
