Mercedes-Benz has launched the brand’s first production-series all-electric SUV in the Indian market at an introductory price of INR 99.30 lakh ex-showroom, India. The Mercedes-Benz EQC is underpinned by the GLC SUV but comes with completely redesigned exteriors as well as interiors. The Mercedes-Benz EQC will be sold across 6 cities in the Indian market in its first phase. The cities include – Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. The brand will also offer a nation-wide charging infrastructure with 100+ charging stations across 48 cities including both EQ dealerships and EQ charging stations in a bid to create a favourable electric ecosystem and reduce the range anxiety.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC is powered by two asynchronous electric motors, one on each axle matched to an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that produces 408 HP of power and 765 Nm of torque connected to a 4MATIC driveline. The EQC returns a driving range of around 471 km on a single charge. The EQC can be charged using a standard 2.4 kWh home connection at the rate of 7.4 kW max charging capacity which takes 21 hours, a 7.4 kW wall-box charger provided by Mercedes-Benz takes 10 hours and 50 kW DC fast chargers that takes 90 minutes to charge from 10% SOC to 100% State of Charge.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC features highlights such as a piano black grille with a closed up appearance, active air inlets, trapezoidal headlamps with blue inserts and LED light technology, an LED light bar that is integrated with headlamps and run across the bonnet shutline, chrome-accented air dam, 20-inch aero efficient alloy wheels with blue finishers and sleek wraparound LED units with a light bar on the tailgate. The EQC features a multilayered soft-touch dashboard with a unique wraparound effect that incorporates aluminium finished fins into the dashboard fascia. The electric SUV also comes with a large 10.25-inch digital instrument screen and a 10.25-inch infotainment system equipped with the latest-generation MBUX operating system with integrated connected technology and voice assistant.
The German brand has also announced that by 2022 it plans to add 10+ electric cars across multiple segments. The brand also estimates that the Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle market share will grow to around 15% to 25% and nearly 50% of car sales will include either 100% EV or PHEV vehicles by 2030.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC can also be booked online from anywhere in India, using the brand’s dedicated e-commerce website, even outside the Phase1 cities mentioned before. The brand has also announced that the wallbox charger has been bundled in the EQC’s price tag, furthermore Mercedes-Benz is also offering customer-centric aftersales packages such as 5-Years unlimited kms comprehensive service package, 5-years unlimited kms warranty and 5 year of RSA (Roadside Assistance). The EQC also comes with 3 years assured buyback, 8 years of battery cover etc.
