Mercedes-Benz’s demand in India is running high. With the sales report of Q1 2022, the carmaker confirmed that it received its highest ever order of more than 4,000 units. Maximum of the sales came from the A-Class Limousine, LWB E-Class, S-Class limousine and GLA, GLC, GLE and GLS SUVs. With the ongoing semiconductor shortage and global supply chain disruption, the carmaker is finding it challenging to meet the customer’s demand. The waiting time for most of the models is on the lines of 3 to 4 months.
Sales Volume In Detail
In terms of sales volume, Mercedes sold a total of 4,022 units for the given period. The same for January to March 2021 was 3,193 units, which converts to a growth of 26 per cent. The E-CLass Long Wheelbase was the top-selling model, with A-CLass Limousine and New S-Class not much behind. In the SUV segment, which is witnessing a significant demand, Mercedes-Benz’s GLC was the top seller. The other popular choices in the SUV segment included the GLA, GLE and GLS. Mercedes Benz’s AMG and Super Luxury Car portfolio too grew by 35 per cent. Winning the ‘Luxury Car of the Year’ awards across platforms, including the ICOTY 2021 for the S-CLass, was enough to attract strong demand from the customers.
The Road Ahead
Riding on the current overwhelming momentum, Mercedes-Benz will aim to attract more customers to its showrooms. The carmaker mentioned its fine combination product portfolio and an enhanced retail experience implemented through ROTF. This enables the customers with full transparency on price and offers a seamless omnichannel experience.
With the sales figure, we can conclude that customers’ first preference in the luxury segment is still Mercedes-Benz. With electric mobility being the next big thing in the automotive market, Mercedes has big plans in this segment as well. In India, the carmaker has already launched the EQC. And there are plans that very soon, we will also see the EQS on the Indian roads.
