Mercedes-Benz EQB EV coming to India soon

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Mercedes-Benz is on an EV launch spree. After the introduction of EQS and EQC in the Indian market, the German carmaker will soon launch the smaller EQB SUV. This will be the brand’s fourth all-electric product on sale in India.

It is said that EQB will be on sale in December 2022. Usually, the German carmaker is slow in introducing global models in the Indian markets. Still, it looks like the company is expediting the launch of electric models based on public response. After the launch of the EQC electric SUV, Mercedes-Benz witnessed a high volume of enquiries for the all-electric offerings of the brand.

Mercedes-Benz EQB design

It has to be noted that, unlike the other electric offerings, the EQB is not based on the dedicated electric vehicle architecture (EVA). Instead, it shares its platform with the GLB. Overall, in terms of design, it looks like a GLB but with specific changes due to the fact it is an electric vehicle. These include blanking out of the front grille and a full-width light bar.
On the inside, the seven-seat SUV gets a traditional interior with dual screens on its dashboard. It is identical to the GLB.

Mercedes-Benz EQB powertrain and battery

Internationally, the Mercedes-Benz EQB is available with a choice of three powertrain options. The EQB 250 gets a single motor that is rated at 188 BHP and 285 Nm. The EQB 300 4Matic gets dual motors (one on each axle), developing 225 BHP and 390 Nm. The top of the line EQB 300 4matic delivers 288 BHP and 520 Nm. In terms of battery choices, the EQB is offered with two battery pack options – a smaller 66.5 kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed WLTP range of around 330 km and a bigger 70.7 kWh unit that is certified at 391 km (WLTP cycle).
