McLaren delays Artura supercar launch due to chip shortage

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

The shortage in the supply of chips is getting really cumbersome now. Even giants like McLaren are facing challenges due to this. McLaren spokesperson officially confirmed the delay in the launch of Artura. And this is all because of the shortage in the supply of chips. The car was initially planned to hit the market in the fall of 2020. But, due to some supply chain issues, McLaren could not achieve this date. Then McLaren decided to launch the car in June of this year, but it was also not achievable due to the shortage in the supply of semiconductors chips.

And now the date has been further pushed to next year, July. Sources suggest that McLaren is currently prioritizing to source chip supply for its higher-margin models. The shortage in supply of semiconductors is now getting really painful. Even in India, most carmakers are facing the burn. MG has already postponed the delivery dates for the fresh orders of the Astor.

Meanwhile, other automotive companies also produce new vehicles way below their maximum capacity. All this is because of the shortage in the supply of semiconductor chips. There are rumours suggesting that the supply and demand curve will somewhat match next year. And hence we can expect the shortage to continue at least till the first half of 2022.
