McLaren 675LT Spider: The Sportscar to drool over

Written by Tejen Dhankhar

McLaren has recently updated their list of being ‘special’ by producing another drop top version of the already limited sportscar, the 675LT. The new ‘Spider’ comes embedded with a 3 piece foldable roof top and also gets some very interesting paint schemes and wheel options. Similar to the coupe this car would also be a limited version with just 500 copies to be produced.

With the already proven, tried and tested 3.8L, V8, producing a whopping 666 BHP and a torque figure of 516 lb-ft, the engine of the Spider makes more power figures. The reworked cylinder heads, refined turbochargers, lightweight connecting rods, new camshaft & a high flow fuel management system have been deployed to ensure mighty power bursts. The traction control system limits torque to 443 lb-ft in first gear to minimize wheel slip and improve acceleration. The result is a McLaren estimated 0-100 kmph time of 2.9 seconds, just 0.2 second slower than the coupe. The 675LT Spider has a dry weight of 1,270 kgs, which is 40 kgs heavier than the coupe. The extra weight comes from the retractable top.

Despite of loosing the fixed roof and gaining weight, Spider, is still 100kgs lighter than the ‘regular’ 650S.

The Spider uses the air braking system to brake it to a halt. Also, it uses the trademark symbol of McLaren i.e. the carbon fibre monocoque chassis. The 675LT Spider has the option of an exclusive Solis exterior paint color (pictured), and comes standard with 10-spoke, 19-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in P Zero Trofeo R tires developed specifically for the Longtail with help from Pirelli. Two other wheel options are available, including a new 20-spoke design in liquid metal or diamond cut finishes and the five-spoke wheels that debuted on the coupe.

The 16 kgs air conditioning system has been removed but can be installed as a no-cost option.

The new exclusive McLaren would cost you around 2,50,19,885 INR at the US shores. Sadly, McLaren has no nearby plans to enter the Indian market.
