Maxxis Tyres wants more market share in premium tyre segment

Maxxis Tyres, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cheng Shin Rubber Ind. Co. Ltd., the largest two-wheeler tyre manufacturer and the 9th largest tyre company in the world is targeting a market share of 5% in Tamil Nadu by the year 2021. With a total of 600 dealers across the country, Maxxis will be setting up 200 premium dealers by end of 2021 to attract potential customers. Maxxis will target the top level tyre dealers for promoting their products and improve the customer experience. Tamil Nadu is one of the fastest-growing two-wheeler markets in India and Maxxis has full focus to engage the customers towards the scooters and motorcycle segments.

Maxxis started its business in India in 2015, the parent company Cheng Shin Rubber Ind. Co. Ltd is a worldwide company serving in more than 180 countries. It has presence across 6 continents and 5 R&D Centres across the world with a total of 21 manufacturing plants, including 1 in India. Honda Activa, India’s top-selling scooter has been using Maxxis’ rubber since 2015. Some of the bestselling products in their portfolio are: Maxxis 2.75-17, 2.75-18, 3.00-17, 3.00-18, 90/100-10, 140/70-17, 80/100-18.

The manufacturing plant in India is located at Sanand, Gujarat which is spread across 106 acres and produces around 40,000 tubes and 20,000 tyres daily. Maxxis is the OEM tyre supplier to a lot of manufacturers such as Hero MotoCorp, Yamaha, Suzuki (Two-wheelers), Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Jeep.

This facility will also export tyre products to cater to the demand in South Asian, African and Middle East countries in the near future. Maxxis has plans to set up 5 more manufacturing facilities in India to exploit the growing four-wheeler market as well.

The growing anti-China sentiment has made the ‘Made-In-India’ tag attract a lot of customers recently. Maxxis has set a target to capture at least 15% of India’s two-wheeler tyre market by 2023. Southern India market will play a vital role in accomplishing the target as Maxxis sets to be among the top 5 tyre manufacturers in the world by 2026.
