Maserati MC20 revealed, beginning of a new era

Trident wielding brand Maserati has revealed the Maserati MC20, that boasts to enter a new era of a luxury sports car in unique Maserati style. The MC20 made its world debut on 09th September 2020, during the “MMXX: Time to be audacious” event and the MC20 moniker where MC stands for Maserati Corse and 20 for the year 2020, the year of its world premiere. 

The MC20 design was produced in about 24 months and the MC20 was designed in Modena and will be built at the Viale Ciro Menotti plant, where Maserati cars have been built for more than 8 decades. Maserati employed the Virtual Vehicle Dynamics Development system, with a focus on performance, the MC20 features the hallmark intake on the front with a large Maserati badge, a splitter integrated air dam, vented bonnet, vertically oriented LED headlamps, muscular shoulders, wraparound taillamps, high-mounted inlet behind the cabin for the engine compartment with polycarbonate engine cover incorporated with louvres and butterfly doors. The aerodynamics were designed through over two thousand man-hours in the Dallara Wind Tunnel and more than a thousand CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations, resulting in a sleek design with an axial force coefficient CX under 0,38. 

On the inside, the MC20 highlights driver-oriented controls with minimal distractions, 10-inch screens, one for the instruments cluster and another for the Maserati Touch Control Plus (MTC Plus MIA). The cabin features a carbon fibre-clad central console with the wireless smartphone charger, a centrally mounted driving mode selector with functions such as GT, Wet, Sport, Corsa and a fifth, ESC Off, two-speed selection buttons, the power window controls, the Multimedia System controls and other controls such as control mounted steering wheels. The Maserati MC20 also comes with connected features such as navigation, Alexa and Wifi Hotspot with Connect smartphone or smartwatch app.

The Maserati MC20 is powered by a Formula1 technology derived 3.0-litre 90-degree V6 cylinder ‘Nettuno’ power unit featuring twin-turbochargers with electronic actuated Waste Gates, Double Over Head Camshaft with variable valve timing, an innovative passive pre-chamber combustion system with twin-spark plugs, a direct and indirect twin injection system linked to a fuel supply pressurised to over 5000 PSI on the direct injection system and 87 PSI on the Port (indirect) injection system. Technology engine produces 630 PS of power @ 7500 RPM and 730 Nm of torque from 3000 RPM with a specific power output of 210 PS/litre, matched to an 8-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission). The MC20 tips the scale at 1,500 kg giving it the best-in-class weight-to-power ratio of 2.33 kg/hp.

The Maserati MC20 is offered in Bianco Audace, Giallo Genio, Rosso Vincente, Blu Infinito, Nero Enigma and Grigio Mistero colour options. The brand has revealed that the launch is scheduled for the end of 2020 with orders to be accepted from the 10th September after the World Premiere.
