2022 Maserati Grecale: An Overview

Maserati will provide loads of details regarding its sporty Grecale SUV during its global debut on March 22nd, 2022. However, in February 2021, Maserati first unveiled the images of Grecale’s prototype being tested at its hometown in Modena. The latest images with the light camouflage now reveal the SUV in greater detail with highlights like the front grille. Along with multiple vertical slats, the grille also houses the central trident Logo with sweptback LED headlamps at the sides.

Other new details of the SUV from the images include stylish machined alloy wheels and a trident logo on the C-pillar. Maserati has named the Grecale after the northeastern wind of the Mediterranean Sea that will also play a key role. This aspect showcases that the automaker continues its legacy of naming cars after renowned winds since 1963. Meanwhile, Maserati mentioned previously that it has invested approximately 800 million Euros in creating an all-new production line for the SUV.

2022 Maserati Grecale: Expected Powertrain & Testing

Sources and reports speculate that Grecale will use the Alfa Romeo sourced 2.9-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine. Power figures are currently unknown, but the engine produces 510 PS and 600 Nm in Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV. Additionally, Maserati will also likely offer a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol motor and later introduce a fully-electric version.

During the first week of February, Maserati reported about the testing of the Grecale in Lapland, Sweden, with freezing conditions. The testing helped Maserati greatly as it gathered data regarding Grecale’s ability to tackle snow and ice-based conditions. The automaker also tested the SUVs start-up procedure, driveability, vehicle dynamics, and traction with temperatures ranging between 0 to -30-degrees.
