Tata Motors recently introduced the Punch SUV in the Indian market. The brand has not revealed the price yet, but pre-bookings for the micro-SUV are open at all Tata dealerships in India. Now, to rival the Punch SUV, which appears to be quite a market disruptor, Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce a new micro-SUV. Reportedly, the new Maruti Suzuki sub-4 meter SUV will position itself between the S-Presso and the Vitara Brezza. Sources also report that the new micro-SUV is known internally as YTB.
Baleno Based Micro-SUV
According to sources, the new micro-SUV will come with a small footprint and be a sub-4 metre car. The brand is likely to leverage the HEARTECT platform to underpin the YTB. Currently, the S-Presso, Ignis, Wagon R, Baleno, Ertiga, and XL6 use the HEARTECT platform. The brand boasts that the platform is not only safe but also provides a weight advantage that converts into fuel efficiency. We speculate that the YTB will be similar in dimensions to the Punch, which measures 3827mm in length, 1742mm in width, and 1615mm in height. The YTB is also likely to come with around 2,400mm of wheelbase.
Maruti Suzuki YTB – Engine Speculation
Maruti Suzuki is likely to offer the YTB with a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine. The engine is likely to make around 83 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. The engine currently does duty on multiple Maruti Suzuki cars and will help the brand in economies of scale. Hence, Maruti Suzuki will be able to offer the YTB at an affordable price point and even possibly undercut the Punch SUV. It is improbable that the brand will offer a diesel variant of the YTB in the Indian market.
More Details on the new Maruti Suzuki YTB are likely to emerge in the near future.
