Maruti Suzuki will sell Invicto only with a hybrid powertrain?

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Earlier this week Maruti Suzuki opened bookings for the Invicto MPV. Now, according to a media report, the people mover is expected to be offered only with a hybrid powertrain.

Will Maruti Suzuki Invicto come with only a hybrid powertrain?

According to the company chairman RC Bhargava, the Indian carmaker is looking at sourcing just the hybrid powertrain from Toyota. This means that while Toyota offers the Innova Hycross with two powertrains, Maruti could offer just the hybrid in the Invicto.

The 2.0-litre engine runs on Atkinson cycle and is paired with an electric motor. This is paired with an e-CVT that drives the front wheels.

Further, the carmaker is expecting Invicto to not be a mass market vehicle and will be a niche unit in the company’s line-up. Hence, positioning the Invicto as a carbon-friendly hybrid model is much more doable.

Maruti’s premium range of vehicles

The Invicto could also make way for other premium vehicles from the Maruti stable. Maruti is known for its mass market offerings and to shy away from this image, the Invicto could be a catalyst. If done right, we could definitely expect other premium vehicles like the three-row Grand Vitara to make its way to our shores.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto : More Details

The Invicto is nothing by the rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross. It is the Japanese carmaker’s first premium 3-row MPV. Toyota will be manufacturing the car alongside the Innova at its facility in Bidadi outside of Bangalore.

The Invicto comes with a new grille of the car. It also gets a prominent S logo in the middle with twin horizontal slats. This design is similar to the grille of the Grand Vitara SUV as well.

Otherwise, the rest of the design elements have been unchanged. The alloy wheels are carried as it is, save for the Suzuki branded centre caps.
