Written by Nizam Shaikh

Maruti Suzuki updated it popular Swift hatchback two years ago in India and it is being speculated that the brand will bring yet another mild facelift to the model. Suzuki has already updated the Swift in the international market which gets new exterior styling and minor changes on the interiors. The Indian model is also likely to follow suit but the biggest change could be to the powertrain.

The current Maruti Suzuki Swift sold in India is powered by a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre 4-cylinder 16-valve naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 5-speed AMT gearbox. The facelift version is speculated to come with a K12C 1.2-litre DualJet engine with dual-injectors per cylinder paired to an SHVS (Smart Hybrid) system that produces 90 Ps of power and currently does duty on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno in India.

In terms of exterior changes, the facelift model is expected to get a larger grille, fighter-jet style air intakes flanking the bumper, new fog light inserts, revamped headlamps, a more prominent chin, wider rear bumper and slight revisions to the side of the car along with larger alloy wheels on offer.

On the inside, the facelift model is likely to get larger SmartPlay infotainment system with navigation, voice command and integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, minor updates to the trim, sim-based telematics and premium features such as remote keyless entry system, engine push Start-Stop button with smart key, leather-wrapped steering wheel, steering mounted controls, automatic headlamps etc.

In terms of safety, the Swift comes with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, seatbelt reminder and buzzer on both driver and co-driver, reverse parking sensors, overspeed warning, ISOFIX with child seat anchorage system, pedestrian protection compliance etc.

The facelift model is also speculated to get pricier than the current Swift owing to the new engine and cosmetic changes.
