Maruti Suzuki plans to launch new Swift CNG soon

Written by News Team

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch the much-anticipated CNG variant of its popular hatchback, the Swift. The new Swift CNG is expected to hit the market on September 12, 2024. This move aligns with Maruti Suzuki’s strategy to expand its CNG portfolio, catering to the growing demand for eco-friendly and cost-effective fuel alternatives.

Key Features and Specifications

The new Swift CNG will be powered by the Z-Series 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a 60-litre CNG tank. This setup is expected to deliver around 70 bhp and 100 Nm of peak torque. While the petrol variant of the Swift boasts a fuel efficiency of 24.8 kmpl, the CNG version is anticipated to exceed 30 km/kg, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.

Competitive Edge

Maruti Suzuki has been a dominant player in the CNG segment, with CNG variants accounting for approximately 34% of its total sales. The Swift CNG will compete with other popular models like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago, both of which offer advanced twin-cylinder CNG solutions. Despite this, Maruti Suzuki’s extensive network and brand loyalty are expected to give the Swift CNG a competitive edge.

Pricing and Variants

The Swift CNG is likely to be available in multiple variants, with a price premium of around INR 60,000 to INR 80,000 over the standard petrol version. This pricing strategy aims to make the CNG variant accessible to a broader audience while maintaining the Swift’s reputation for affordability and value for money.

The introduction of the Swift CNG is expected to further solidify Maruti Suzuki’s leadership in the Indian automotive market. The Swift is a popular hatchback and having a CNG option will provide potential buyers an option to get an alternate fuel source. The estimated launch also comes in time for the festive season. The launch of the Swift CNG will be followed by the launch of the long awaited update to the Dzire.
